Antique Circus Clown Automaton Crank Music Box, Excellent Working Condition. Antique German Music Box Automaton. The crank turns easily, and as it does the three clowns move effortlessly, making their music just like they did when they were made over 100 years ago. The clowns on the left and right turn from side to side playing their trombone and guitar while the clown in the center bangs his symbol while the music box plays its cheerful tune. Please view the video below to see and hear this beautiful old piece making its magic. The wooden stand measures 16 1/2 wide, 8 3/8 deep and 2 3/4 tall. The entire piece stands 14 tall. The stand is covered in paper and nailed together. We are not sure of the maker of this piece and there are no markings at all that we could see. We believe it was made in the late 1800s to the very early 1900s. The clowns are composition with some wooden parts underneath. You can see the joints at their hands and feet, this is not damage, only how the clowns were made so that they could move. Their faces were hand painted, the colors are still vibrant and bright. The clown on the right has some water marks on the left side of his clothing and his hat. No other signs of water damage, it looks like it may have been a spill. There paper is flaking in spots, however the wood is sound and the box is sturdy. There are some dirty areas on the clowns clothing. Some areas of paint loss or chips, mostly on the arms, legs, hands and feet. We did our best to show as much as could in the pictures.
