Antique French Emerald & Natural Pearl Enamel & Silver Musical Singing Bird Box. Up for sale is a rare French antique gemstone & enamel bird box. This fantastic work of art is in good cosmetic & working condition in relation to its age. The bird makes a lovely sound plus it flaps its wings vigorously. As you can see, this box has magnificent hand work decorations in the silver with filigree type work in the silver as well as colorful bird decoration in enamel all which pales in comparison to the collection of natural pearls & natural emeralds set into the box. This fine work of art is set with approximately 3.80 carats of natural emeralds. These emeralds have rich green colors while some are included and others are “cleanish” which is normal for emeralds. The box is also set with 11 natural untreated pearls. These pearls are all white with round tops excluding a couple which has slightly off round tops due to natural growth and availability. This box has rich carvings on the sides and edges plus it has a drawer on the bottom which holds the winding key and has room for small trinkets and charms as well. The bottom of the box has a boars head French hallmark, which stands for silver 800 guarantee. This box measures 11cm x 8.2cm x 5.5cm. It has normal wear and a couple of light dings as well as some enamel wear but overall its a fantastic work of art with a beautiful singing bird for entertainment. Please note: I got some info from a Musical Box place and the gentleman is pretty sure it is a. Karl Griesbaum and was made around the 1920’s. We have no way of substantiating this claim, but at least it’s something to go by.
