Large Antique Inlaid Swiss Music Box 12 Tunes 1886 28. A beautiful, all original Swiss made music box that dates to 1886. This piece measures 28 wide, 10 deep, 9 tall. The case is in very good condition and the works inside are near mint. This piece was very well taken care of with no rust or dents. The cylinder, comb and controls are exceptionally clean. I can find no missing teeth on the cylinder, comb or gears. The cylinder measures approximately 13.5 long and 2.5 in diameter. There is a framed glass lid that is hinged and fits over the inner works to keep out dust. The outside crank is detachable and works perfectly. The controls on the right side of the cylinder are marked JACOTS patent date September 22, 1886. It also states that this piece was imported by HZ Rhoads of Lancaster, PA. The speed adjustment for the cylinder works perfectly. The sound quality of this box is excellent, very rich and very clear. It is equal to the best I have heard. This music box plays 12 tunes. America, Hail Columbia, Closer My God to Thee, A Las and Did My Savior Blend, The Wedding March, On Fordhams Stormy, Lohengrin Bridal Chorus, Adentai Fidelis, Old Hundred, It Is Well With My Soul, Beautiful River, and From Greenlands Icy Mountains. The original song list is displayed on a decorative paper attached to the inside of the lid. This multicolored decorative song list has an emblem on the bottom of the paper with the printing Marque de Fabrique 1816. The case is walnut (Im fairly certain), and the top has a very decorative inlay. The front has hand painted flowers. There is a shrinkage crack in the upper left hand corner of the case. The crack measures 7, less than 1/8 at the corner where it is the worst and fades to a hairline at about 3.5. Overall this is a very fine piece of history in excellent condition with excellent sound quality. More photos and video available. Thank you and enjoy.
