Nice looking medium sized music box with 8 tuneful airs (songs) which include the familiar “Blue Danube” waltz composed in 1866 by Johann Strauss II. The brass movement is a cylinder type which automatically progresses through each air at the completion of a single rotation of the cylinder. The spring drive is wound using the lever at the left of the movement. The 2 levers on the right allow “change/repeat” of the air progression and “start/stop” at the completion of an air. The rotating 8 1/2 cylinder and the 58 tooth comb together provide the music. The beautifully finished wooden case with top and front inlays are in remarkable condition for its many years of service. The top is slightly warped as shown in a photo. The original playlist is affixed to the inside top and is in very nice original condition. Overall the case measures approximately 17″ across the top x 5 1/2″ high x 8 deep across the top. The movement has been recently serviced and works well. This nice example of our musical history obviously could use a restoration to put it back into its original factory fresh condition but it looks and sounds great as is.
