Regina Music Box Coin Operated Single Comb With Seven Music Discs
This turn of the century Style 13 Regina coin operated music box. Sometimes referred to as Clockwork Regina. Serial number 1517, is in a beautiful quarter sawn oak case that measures 21 wide, 18 1/2 deep, and 10 1/2 tall. It features rope-turned molding and a monochrome lid print. The lid print appears to have had a bit of water damage at some point in time and it appears as if someone might have pasted some sort of bodice over the upper body of the lady but it is still quite striking. It comes with the original crank. It has not been recently restored but it is in very good playing condition with smooth play and no missing teeth. Given that it is a coin operated machine, and was therefore at one time located in a commercial establishment, the case is also in remarkably good condition. One of the hinges on the lid has been repaired and the left rear corner of the lid is dinged (see photos) but other than that, its in very good condition. Included are seven 15 1/2 music discs. All but the copper colored one list patent dates of December 17, 1889 and June 27, 1893. The copper colored one is a newer reproduction. There is light surface rust on some of the older discs. The discs include the following selections. Marching Through Georgia #1205. Just Because She Made Dem Goo Goo Eyes #1862. Smoky Mokes Cake Walk #1728. Put Me Off At Buffalo #1501. Just One Girl #1686. By The Light Of The Silvery Moon. A nickel buys two plays of the disc. I found that I could trick it by inserting a penny prior to inserting a nickel and it will play continuously. It is interesting to note that the 1901 Regina, Polyphon and Harmonia catalog published by Nicole Freres, Ltd of London England lists it for sale for 12 British Pounds (approximately 17 US Dollars).
