Super Antique Regina 15.5 Single Comb Disc Music Box Oak Cabinet with 6 Discs. This is just how you want to find them. We acquired this antique Regina disc music box at a recent estate sale. This machine plays 15.5 metal tune-sheets (discs) and has a single comb in perfect condition creating a great sound. Some people say double comb machines sound better but they are also usually much more expensive. Having had both kinds of machines, I would say that the sound is pretty similar in both. This is a top quality machine that dates to about 1900. The machine is not marked but is easily identified as made by Regina. There is a list of Regina discs framed and mounted inside the lid. One of the really nice and unique features of this music box is the drawer for disk storage which is quite rare. Based on the great condition, it is possible that it had undergone a restoration at some time recently which may account for the fact there is no label or instructions inside. It is very easy to operate. You simply place the disc on the center post and lock the roller arm down over the disc. Wind the machine and move the start lever towards the back of the machine. Once the disc starts to play, it will play continuously until wound down. You can also move the start lever to stop (towards front of machine) after it starts to play and the disc will play once and stop. The Regina Music Box Co. Was founded in 1889 in Leipzig, Germany and shortly thereafter was moved to the United States due to the high cost of importing. It was considered to be America’s finest music box maker with annual sales at the turn of the last century of about 2 million dollars per year when the average worker only made a few dollars a week. Condition is everything when purchasing a music box and this music box is in great mechanical condition, plays perfectly and sounds amazing. The oak cabinet has a beautiful finish and is in excellent condition. It measures 22″ x 20″ x 11 1/2 tall. Considering the large number of these music boxes that were made, only a few survive and many are not in very good condition.
