ANTIQUE BREMOND 6 AIRS CYLINDER MUSIC BOX. Bremond sometime between the 1860’s and 1880’s. It plays 6 different “airs” (songs). The cylinder is 8 long and the comb has 77 teeth. The box lid appears to be made of rosewood with decorative marquetry (inlay). The rest of the box is made of an unknown hardwood with a painted grain finish. The front of the box has a bone inlay key hole (no key, lock may be nonfunctional). The winding lever is marked with the serial number “8051”, which matches a handwritten serial number on the bottom of the box. The box measures about 15″ long, 6 5/8″ wide, and 5 tall. The inside lid has a printed song sheet marked “Etouffoirs en Acier soit a Spiraux” (Steel and Spiral Dampers) and “FABRIQUE DE GENEVE” (Geneva Factory). The song list contains the following titles: 1. Cabalette de la folie. (Cabaletta of Madness) 3. (Yes Did It Have To) 4. A moi les plaisirs. (To Me the Pleasures) 6. Polka de l’opera. It’s guaranteed to be an original 19th-century music box made by Bremond. Condition of this antique cylinder music box is VERY GOOD. There are no broken teeth on the comb and the cylinder pins appear to be in good shape. The glass dust cover is intact. Functionally, the mechanism appears to work great. The winding lever cranks properly and I was able to play all 6 songs. A portion of the tune sheet on the inside lid is torn off (see photo) but the song list is present and legible. The wooden case has some scuffs and scratches. The lid has some small pieces of missing inlay. The lock likely doesn’t work and I don’t have a key. Overall, this 140+ year-old music box sounds great and displays well. Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. See my other listings.
