Antique Swiss Singing Bird Box Solid. Unique Singing Tone – VERY RARE TO FIND. This antique singing bird box crafted in the late 1800s/very early 1900s. By unknown maker, highly possible crafted by “OMM/Raymy” of Geneva Switzerland. Base on the peculiar rear mounted governor fan movement designed. The bird is highly colorful boasting iridescent blue & green feathers and pastel red, green, blue and orange feathers. Antique sophisticated Swiss handmade unique movement. This bird box operate smoothly Bird has incredibly strong singing, vibrant animation, and hits all oscillating notes. The box runs smoothly. This movement is different than most. It’s a Swiss movement not German KG movement. The obvious difference is where the governor fan is located, in the back. Typically, (German KG movement) governor fans are located on the side, but this is located in the back, and has a long endless screw to allow for the governor fan to be in the back. The other difference is the mechanism that allows the bird to rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise is also different compared to most. Typically you would have what is called a rack strip, which is a tiny piece of metal that runs perpendicular to the shaft of where the bird sits, and as the rack strip moves back and forth, this is what makes the bird turn. In this case, the gearing mechanism is more substantial and is what Rochat used in his early fusée type movements. Moreover, the bird box is quieter than most. You can hear the governor fan running, but overall there is less noise from the mechanism. It is a superior design which allows for the entire singing bird box to be sturdier and last longer. The maker original signature is inside the box (See listing picture). Beautiful Antique Swiss Hand Made Solid sterling silver singing bird box, marked at the bottom. The case reflects the style of repoussé, which features wonderful carved Birds and Floral designs that are shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. (Watch the video to see it play). This box allows the bird to run with 2 options. The first option is to have the bird singing continually till the mainsprings force is ended, with the bird still set upright. This is for the owner to observe the beautiful bird as the way it is displayed. Wind the key at the bottom key hole for a few times. Place the bird box up right. Slide the bird shape key switch at the front of the box to the right. Keep the bird shape switch on the right position. When owner wants to have the bird back inside the bird box with the upper lid closed down, just slide the bird shape switch back to the left position, then wind the key 2 -3 times for the bird to run itself back inside the box. Caution: never touch the bird and the upper lid. Try not to move the upper lid in order to protect the adjustment and condition of the bird. The second option is to let the bird run one cycle and then have it return itself back inside the box after each cycle. Just wind the key at the key hole at the bottom a few times. Slide the bird shape switch to the right. When the bird pops out to sing and dance, switch the bird shape switch back to the left. A truly remarkable work of art and decorative collectible!
