This is one outstandingly beautiful wood veneer jewelry music box, since it is made of Thuya (pronounced two-ya) wood veneer from Morocco, Africa, and is dark & incredibly, brilliantly shiny–almost moist in appearance. The stunning appearance of the Thuya wood is unmistakeable, and although the wood is unmarked, the absence of a Thuya wood label is not at all unusual because this antique Thorens music box was made in the 1940’s & possibly 1930’s. Just look over all the photos to judge for yourself its awesome, superb wood veneer! Measuring 6″ L x 4″ W x 2 3/4 Tall, this is one awesome music box that will stand out on its own or in a collection, & the music tunes played are quite unique. The original Thorens label says 2 tunes: 1 “Kuhreigen” & 2 “Abscheid von der Alp, ” which I love the title because it literally means Farewell to the Alps. As part of the restoration I do, I have oiled the music box mechanism to keep it playing for years to come, for this is truly an heirloom-quality music box, that should be used, enjoyed, & cherished, by the generations to come. The only minor “flaw” if you even want to call it that, is that 2 of the small wood feet on the right side have some of their dark coating off, but that could be easily remedied by the new owner, or you could leave it as is, as part of the antique “charm” of an original treasure. Look over all the photos as part of the description–enlarge, enhance, magnify them–to judge for yourself the incredible beauty of the burled wood veneer, together with the beautiful sounds of the unique tunes, especially “Farewell to the Alps”–if it really appeals to you, don’t wait too long to decide or it may be gone.
