PLEASE NOTE, this item is listed at a lower price because a couple of the tines are broken off. The music still plays well (watch video to hear it), but it is an imperfection. The only other imperfections are a shallow scratch on the left angels arm, a couple small pen marks on the interior and a couple notches on the bottom of the top interior lid (see photos). Music box is in overall great vintage condition. From a smoke free home.

Offered here is an exceptional and fully documented Swiss Black Forest carved bear music box footstool – a truly rare example of post-war Swiss artistry. This exquisite hand-carved piece was personally signed twice by the sculptor P. Huber-Aeschimann of Zürich, Switzerland, in 1946. The craftsmanship is remarkable. Measuring 19″ long × 7″ wide × 9.25 tall and weighing 5 lbs 6 oz, this piece displays incredible carved detail and a rich, untouched patina. The music box is currently non-functioning, though it could easily be replaced with a period-correct Swiss movement. The top lid lightly rubs against the right bear’s ear when opening – likely due to natural wood shrinkage over nearly 80 years – a subtle reminder of its authenticity and age. What truly sets this piece apart is its astonishing provenance, unlike anything typically found with these carvings. Original signed order form by P. Huber-Aeschimann (signed in two places). This rare level of documentation proves this was a direct postwar export from Switzerland, personally handled by the artist – not a later tourist or resale item. These carved bear musical footstools are among the most sought-after examples of Swiss and Black Forest folk art. To find one with complete provenance to the original sculptor is almost unheard of. This is a museum-quality artifact that beautifully bridges fine carving, early Swiss craftsmanship, and postwar history. Excellent carving detail and rich original finish. Music box non-working (easily restorable with a correct Swiss mechanism). Lid gently rubs right bear’s ear when opened (minor age shrinkage).
