The German company was founded in Wahren, Leipzig, as Firm Brachhausen & Riesener by Gustas Adolph Brachhausen and Ernst Paul Riessner in 1887 for manufacturing their new 1870 invented mechanical disc-playing music box Polyphon. The company was renamed to Polyphon-Musikwerke AG in 1895. Polyphon by Musikwerke Disc Player is in working condition; includes 7 Metal Discs. The wooden music box, believed to be made from tiger-wood , measures 10in high by 21in by 19in. Tiger-wood cabinets are rare and hard to find. The majority of cabinets made during this era were mahogany. Tiger-wood is an exotic wood species that is best known for its beautiful grain. With its deep reddish/orange background with dark vein stripes, it is a dramatic and durable hardwood. Otto Pohland from Chemintz, Germany brass name plate inside , beautiful original flower inlaid top which distinguishes this beautiful music box aesthetically. Serial number etched on Polyphon gold plate is #162. It plays with a beautiful tonal quality. It has been maintained with professional care over many decades from the estate acquired from. I’d recommend to the new owner that he/she continue that basic service provided by previous owner, so this antique Polyphon continues to play well into the foreseeable future. Everything is working properly on this single comb machine. No key for box.. Please note that antiques are not new and may have some bumps and bruises from age and use, this adds to the charm and character and shows it’s history. Overall in excellent condition. Includes 7 -15.5 inch discs of the same vintage as the machine. Also, plays 15.5 Regina discs. Der Trompeter v Sakking. On the Lake of Worth Waltz.
