We are offering for sale a nice example of Black Forest artistry.. Believe to be created 1884 to 1900.. Came from a prominent Central Pennsylvania estate. A VERY UNIQUE MUSIC BOX. A RARE Victorian child’s musical chair with shaped intricately carved back, on which there is a lighter wood inlayed medallion of female Chamois goat with her young kid, on mountain top with richly burled background.. Seat has inlay of a Roebuck deer on mountain top, with dark burled background framed with floral and foliage.. Lots of detailed textured decorative carvings.. Seat rests on a spring which when depressed engages the music box housed inside and is key wind from underside of chair, where there is a partial label.. Note that the chair parts have incised numbers.. Beautiful cabriole shaped legs with carved detail. FINE, RARE and UNIQUE black forest piece.. Possibly from Brienz Switzerland.. The school was founded 1884, had its own small zoo to study animal anatomy resulting in realistic animal depictions.. Don’t miss this one.. See pics for details..
