Super rare Aurephone Mechanical Organette, c. 1880 Hand Numbered No. 12″ (16″ counting handle)x 10″ x 8 1/2″ (30 x 25 x 21 cm). Possibly working condition but untested. There are marks and wear to the finish all over – not pristine, but well above average and entirely appropriate – it tells of its age without looking any the worse for it. The wood is beautiful, with what appears to be an old moist spot on top. The gold lettering & decoration is very good: fading or darkening in places, but overall very complete and softly lustrous. Structurally, the box is sound. The hinges and all the joints are firm. There seem to be no splits, chips, or dents, and I can see no repairs. Inside, the paper instruction label is original and near complete. I believe the mechanics to be entirely original. I’m sure it could use a cleaning and probably new rubber parts. The metal components have light surface corrosion, but no pitting or severe rust. All parts move freely and smoothly. The lettering on the top flap is’Forte': press the button to open the flap and increase the volume while playing. If you are new to organettes, extra rolls can be bought new e. Musical Box Society of Great Britain. You can even cut your own from a template. I like the Aurephone very much, but have just acquired an American Organette with a large quantity of rolls. I can only justify having one, so the Aurephone is for sale. Rest assured that it will be packaged very safely.
