Beautiful piece that shows the kids waiting for Santa and the dad reading them a book by the fire place. You see Santa and his elves peaking through the window. The music that plays is once the key is would is Santa Clause is Coming to Town. It has a metal badge with the inscription: A VISIT FROM SAINT NICHOLAS 795/9500 LIMITED EDITION. Santa, Elves and family are made of ceramic. Since this is a vintage item, there are signs of age ware/use. There a scratches on top of the Diorama and as you can see, the fathers arm has been re-attached (picture #15). A great addition to any collection. 16.25″ wide X 9″ tall X 8.5 length. Antique Tharin Style French Animated Musical Hand Painted Diorama Tableau! For sale we have an antique French animated musical diorama. This piece is encased in a wood box having a glass front in a gessoed gold frame. There is a brass clockwork movement that generates automation through wooden pulleys and fine wire. The movement is wound from the front. There is a separate music box attached to the top of the wooden box. The background, made of papier Mache, is a beautifully hand painted European village scene, with a water channel flanked by numerous highly detailed buildings with towers and architectural features. There are figures off in the distance in the village at the foot of a mountain. This piece is in very good condition, with wear consistent with its age and use, and currently is in working order. We have included a photo of the inside pulleys and wire, along with a handwritten piece of paper that is inside the case. I think this one is interesting for collectors only. A realy rare automaton made by Griesbaum in the 1950’s. There is not that much to see until you push the little button on the side. Music begins to play and 2 doors open to reveil a man playing a citar or other string instrument. When you push the button once more the doors close again. Here you can find a YouTube recording of the box playing. You need a battery for the light. There is a socket for a 1950’s German battey but now you can also use today’s penlite batteries. The box is 22cm high. Take a look at other recordings we have made. You can hear some noise in de back ground but that is the sound of our fire place and a short cat fight!
