Very nice-looking music box. This appears to be a rare Reuge music box. Have not seen any like it with wood inlaid panels. Box possibly made in Italy, but the only markings are the label and on the Swiss movement. Plays “Rain Drops Are Falling On My Head”.

An absolutely fantastic Reginaphone Style 240, in a curved mahogany console cabinet, incorporating the finest engineering Regina had to offer in it’s day together with unique and fashionable styling to make it a showpiece in the finest of homes, highlighted by the hand-carved lions on either side of the horn section. Plays 15.5 disks, which can be conveniently stored in the lower section of the cabinet. 12 new disks will be furnished for your listening pleasure. You will be amazed at the range and depth of sound. Overall dimensions are: 22″ wide x 20″ deep x 49 high. The cabinet has been refinished to the highest of standards and shows “as-new”. The restored double-comb mechanism, with “short” bed plate, a Regina invention that was a vast improvement over earlier “long” versions, is without damaged teeth or damper noise. It produces pitch-perfect music that is extremely pleasant and perfectly in tune. The phonograph components, as originally supplied by Columbia, are in perfect order, without pitting, corrosion, or other so-called “patina”. The internal spruce wood phonograph horn is accessed by opening the sliding doors at the front. We’ve been collecting music boxes for over 30 years, and in my opinion this is one of the very best we’ve ever had. Please listen to it here. Here is Hungarian Rhapsody #2 in C minor by Franz Liszt. A triumphant presentation of one of Liszt’s most famous compositions, this special music box showcases the genius of Liszt, the precision of the intricate 72 note Swiss mechanism, and the passion and skill of the various artists that had a hand in creating it. The complexity and nuance of this masterpiece as played by this music box is simply astounding. There are over 1200 pins on the 72 note pin drum… The reason why Reuge Swiss music boxes are regarded among the finest in the world. The movement is impeccably clean and shiny. This rare item is in excellent condition with a pristine 72 note musical movement and a smooth wind up that works effortlessly and precisely. It is beautiful and precise. The button on the side of the music box starts and stops the music at the end of the movement being played. The accompanying instruction sheet shows this. Croix Switzerland, The musical movement is marked Reuge Switzerland on the mainspring cover and the winding key. The case, topped with a roaring lion, and surrounded on all corners by roaring lions was hand carved in the Schwarzwald or Black Forest of Germany around 1920.
