The singing bird mechanism is in beautiful working condition. This one has a beautiful gilt brass case with beautiful engravings like the beautiful hummingbirds on the lid. Karl Griesbaum is known for creating high-quality, handmade music boxes and whistlers that are highly sought after by collectors for their unique beauty, functionality and hand made quality. The mechanism has just been fully serviced including full disassembly cleaning, lubricating and adjusting to as new functionality. The main spring has also been removed from the barrel, cleaned and lubricated. The original leaking and worn out bellows have been recovered. The original bellows materials tend to dry out and get stiff over time. I use a modern highly flexible and airtight Bellows material that works really well. This bird box will give you many many years of great service. It works and sounds great and should provide many years of use and enjoyment. Beautiful vintage bird box. Pre-owned antique Karl Griesbaum German Automaton Singing Bird in a Cage Music Box. The bird does not sing. It does open and close its beak, turns its head and moves tailfeathers nicely. It is dusty, and needs cleaning. There is some discoloration and surface wear to the brass. This is a really lovely piece of history. The mechanism used to make the bird move and sing is intricate and well made. The little bird is lifelike in its movements and its real bird features. It measures 4.75 X 4 inches, 9.5 inches tall. German Whistler Figure by Karl Griesbaum in fantastic original Condition and in works perfectly too. This particular Whistler is called the night watchmen. You can see the carved key in his hand and then he also has a bottle of wine in his pocket. He is also carrying a lantern which turns on while he plays his tune, and then turns off again. He plays tune #37 Show me the way to go home. There are 2D size batteries in the base to power the lightbulb. I’ve always really like this particular Whistler. I think it’s just a really attractive design and carving.

Antique Original Carved Wood Black Forest Whistler by Karl Griesbaum. These Whistler’s are so cool. I read that they have one of the most intricate mechanisms with the bellows and plunger. This one is in beautiful condition. I think it does need to be cleaned. I’ve been able to get it whistling a couple times, but it is not work consistantly. His head moves back and forth as it whistles.

The Antique Karl Griesbaum German Singing Bird Cage is a rare and collectible piece made in Germany during the early 20th century. The brass definitely some wear and age. These look like age spots. The cage is beautiful the braided bars go inward, but that maybe how it was designed. Under the bird, there looks to be a red mushroom/flower that is missing its top. The bird itself sings and moves, and the wind up and switch to turn it on and off both work great. The felt tip on two of the three legs is missing. I honestly would have just removed the last one, but it is best to let the collector do that.
