It does not have the crank. I was able to hear it to confirm it was working at the estate that I got it from. It will also need to be tuned up. Body is a faux rosewood with inlay design. Victorian Mermod Freres Cylinder Music Box with inlaid top. Box 15″ long x 6″ high x 7 deep. Cylinder 5 1/2 long. Plays eight tunes – nice song list! Condition: Oxidation present on comb. This mechanism is clearly ready for refurbishing, but plays pretty well in it’s attic found state. The case is good condition overall, but one of the lid hinges is bent so needs replacing or straightening. Looks like someone pushed down on the lid while it was up. The movement is marked M. 1846 (Mermod Frères, Sainte-Croix, Switzerland) and retains its Jacot Music Box Co. New York label inside the case. The original tune card is mounted on the lid and lists six songs. 6-Air cylinder (plays six tunes). Maker’s marks: M. Jacot Music Box Co. (New York) dealer label. Tune card present on underside of lid. Repeater / Change lever intact. 16″ wide x 8″ deep x 6 tall. ? Condition (In Need of Repair). Spring does not wind – movement does not fully engage. Cylinder rotates slightly when tested by hand, but not under spring power. Case shows scattered wear, scratches, and finish loss. Tune card has edge losses and wear. C19th cylinder music box in oak case. Made in Switzerland by Mermod Freres, with Jacot Safety Check. Hinged glass top in perfect condition. Includes hand crank and key. There is a hand written program of 12 songs with a fold but whole. Corners are torn where it’s come loose from the nails used to attach it to the inside lid, original nails still intact. There is a stop/play control, speed control, song selection and switch to repeat or play next song. Mechanics work and it plays wonderfully. I made a video of it turning on, playing at both speeds, and stopping. Message me and I’ll provide a link. The box shows wear from 130+ years but no cracks. There’s a chunk of wood missing where the front right foot is attached, see picture. Otherwise no major damage. The box measures 28″ x 10.75″ x 7.5 and weighs over 40lbs. Appropriate action will be taken in regards to your involvement. This is a great little antique music box that has had a 1 cent mechanism added to it. It can be used or bypassed. Little till underneath to catch the pennys. Iv restored these cylinder boxes and disc players for 20 years or more, all aspects including replacement of broken teeth. This one Iv held on to with the coin op on it. The box plays 10 famous American tunes. Measures 20″ by 8+1/2″ by 7. The box comes with Jacot’s patented safety check Sept 22 1886. This catches the ratchet on the main spring should the paw break or anything in the box to be protected in this area. Quite heavy 17 pounds. Packed, expect it to size up to these figures at least. 24 by 14 by 12. This isn’t a toy. It should be played supervised by an adult.
