I offer up for sale, this Reuge Outstanding Hand Inlayed Wood Interchangeable 5 Cylinder 50 Note Music Box. This 5 cylinder Swiss Music Box, made by the famous Reuge music box makers, was made for the Franklin Mint in about 1985. The box is a lovely burled wood with Rosewood and Ebony inlay with banded trim. It is highly polished to a fine finish! There is a mirror on the inside of the cover, doubling the magnificent look of the works inside! The works are polished brass and it is 7 1/2″ wide by 17″ long and not quite 4 3/4 high. There are 5 interchangeable cylinders with 10 of the most wonderful airs from Vienna. The box has a serial number of 1728 out of only 2500 made. Sound bite available at. Thanks for viewing my item! Is it a Cylinder or Disk Music Box?? Perhaps the most unique music box ever created, with an intriguing back story, dating to the early 1890s. At that time, Polyphon Musikwerke of Germany decided to manufacture music boxes in the U. They sent Gustave Brachhausen to America with a mandate to begin manufacturing as soon as possible. Brackhausen set up shop in New Jersey and initially manufactured to Polyphons designs, then quickly moving to newer more Americanized designs, which became the Regina lineup. As luck would have it, he lived in a house across the street from Frederick Otto, who, together with his sons, ran a successful manufacturing company specializing in surgical instruments. Brachhausen and Otto, as neighbors, shared a social life and bragged to one another of their respective commercial successes. Otto, however, cleverly learned from his new friend the many aspects of music box manufacture, and decided to have a go of it himself. To avoid patent infringement issues, he and his sons designed a new type of music box, a sort of hybrid of cylinder and disk movements, which they branded the “Capital”. The tapered music sheets looked similar in size and shape to the removable cuffs that gentlemen used on their dress clothes. Thus, the term Capital Cuff music box has stuck with these pieces to this day. The neighborly relationship now past history, Otto and Brachhausen entered into a long and litigious period, with Regina emerging victorious. It was a pyrrhic victory, though, as the phonograph displaced music boxes soon after. This model being offered, is a STUNNING Model “B” (Duplex). It utilizes the medium-sized cuffs that Capital offered, 5.5″ x 4.25″ x 3.5. Everything is in wonderful, recently restored condition, with the polished oak case measuring 21″ x 14″ x 8.5. Ten (10) excellent cuffs will be supplied together with the machine. This is perhaps the finest example of a Capital Cuff music box we’ve ever encountered. Not the biggest, but definitely THE BEST. “GRAND FORMAT” OVERTURE MUSIC BOX. ” BEYOND BEAUTIFUL, AESTHETICALLY AND MUSICALLY “. A fantastic, rare and simply put, wonderful, music box. When you want “THE BEST”, look no further. This is the Holy Grail of music boxes. Made in 1865 by what experts consider to be the best maker, Nicole Freres. The 17″ x 4″ cylinder plays four long and complex overture selections from the operas Semiramide, Freischutz, Magic Flute and William Tell. Each selection is over two (2) minutes in duration. The original, engraved tune sheet is present, as is the lock and key. Overall case dimensions are 29″ x 11″ x 9. The casework is a work of art unto itself, with extensive brass and wood inlays, in addition to 152 pieces of mother-of-pearl on the lid. When we acquired this fine piece about 10 years ago, it was in what most music box aficionados considered to be in fine condition. This was not good enough for us, so we sent it back to it’s original birthplace in Switzerland with carte-blanche instructions to make it “like new”. The restoration was done in two locations, with the movement restored by Michele Bourgoz at the world-famous Baud Museum in L’Auberson, and the casework done by Monsieur Denis Margot, whose atelier workshop is nearby. These two gentlemen are absolute perfectionists and when finished, it is safe to say the music box was as good as, or perhaps better, than when new 150 years ago, due to the state-of-the-art tuning equipment designed and employed by Monsieur Bourgoz for just such restoration work. We’ve had this in our home for the past 10 years, enjoyed it immensely, and played it numerous times not only for our own pleasure but that of our guests and clients from all over the world. Now, as age advances, it may be time to move it on to some other lucky person to enjoy and savor. You know how rare and important this type of music box is, and was, throughout the years. Exceptional Victorian, Swiss made music box playing 6 airs/songs. It plays beautifully and the sound is excellent. Don’t know the names of the songs but they are all old classics you would recognize. No missing teeth to the comb. Important as they are expensive to replace. Has been cleaned and serviced by previous owner. The inside is ebonized wood with a glass window covering the cylinder. The start/stop, change & repeat levers are all in good working order. The inlayed Rosewood case is in very good condition with minimal flaws commensurate with age. Nothing major or distracting. Antique Olympia Coin Operated Oak 11 5/8 Music Box in very nice original condition. This double comb music box has a very ornate oak case in such good condition, we didn’t even have to clean it! According to the Encyclopedia of Automatic Instruments, the 11 5/8 Olympia discs are compatible with the same size of the Criterion disc. We have also found out the Euphonia 11 5/8 discs work on this machine with the use of a sleeve on the center spindle. It has the original feet. We oiled the motor and it runs strong and steady. It has a unique and delicate one cent/penny coin operated mechanism. It works nicely and the machine travels two times around for that one penny and then stops. Circa 1900 Antique 20 3/4 Regina Double Comb Cupola Top Music Box. It is a wonderful mahogany with a great ornate cabinet. Super ornate corner columns with the raised cupola top. This music box really has an impressive look!!! Probably the largest music box we have had to offer. Measures 29 1/2″ in length by 24″ deep by 14 1/2 high.
