Regina Music Box, 12″ box with 1 8″ disc Pre-1900. Condition is Very good/Used. The Regina Music Box Company began in America in 1892. This box lists patents from 1889 through 1899 and therefore comes from the end of the 1800s or beginning of the 1900s. There is no specific date on the box. The disc is dated 1893. The Regina tune sheet is a steel disk with the printed song title, The Blue Danube Waltz, and logo directly on the disk. It has only the one disk. It is in quite lovely condition, a few minimal scratches (see the pictures). The wood and hinges are all in great condition, The picture on the inside cover is pristine. It’s a beautiful, sturdy box 12″ x 9″ and 7 tall. The disk is 8. I don’t know much about how long it was in use by my grandmother (or her mother, I don’t know which) or how it works. You can get in touch with me with specific questions and I will try to answer them. I live in northern Vermont. If you are within 200 miles of me I think it would be best for me to drive it to you so nothing happens to it during postal transport. We can discuss those arrangements. If you are outside the 200 mile radius we can discuss how you would like it delivered. I have a new granddaughter due and feel I would do better by her if I started a bank account for her than if I kept this and gave it to her which she is grown. Absolutel beautiful, this antique Jacot’s music box is sure to please any lover of finely made boxes and music boxes especially. It features stunning, many-colored marquetry on the top and the front of the box, and the wood looks good. The interior seems lacquered or ebonized, showing minimal signs of wear, nicely intact. Photos show you the cosmetic condition of this piece quite accurately. No stressed wood, no cracks, no serious chipping on the interior anywhere. There are a few minor marks on the exterior, but nothing serious–photos really show you well what to expect. The wood has a rich color to it. The top opens and shuts nicely. The glass covering the actual cylinder looks nice with no scratches or damage, still nice and clear and well-placed. The only thing to point out is it is a little difficult to open should you need to because the little leather/cloth strap to lift it with has worn down to a nub over time. On the music box end, it sounds glorious and plays 8 tunes, as shown on the cute little card on the inside of the box, which I have pictured above. The start and stop function works well. The crank on the side to produce music works fine, and the teeth of the music box all seem in beautiful shape, so no issues with sound. The box measures 14 1/2″ wide x 7 3/8″ deep x 5 3/16 tall.
