Hi this is an antique musical box that someone installed on a metal Egyptian Rameses II cigarette box. The musical movement works great but seems fast. The winding key is included. There is damage to the old cigarette label on the box and pencil writing on the added wood part that the mechanism is attached to. Dimensions in inches: 5.5 x 2.875 x 1.5.

ANTIQUE ORNATE EARLY MUSICAL SNUFF BOX. CYLINDER IS 2-1/2 LONG. VERY FINE COMB WITH NO BROKEN TEETH. CASE DIMENSIONS: 3-3/4″ X 2-1/4″ X 1-1/4 TALL. CASE HAS SEVERAL SMALL PIECES MISSING (SEE PICTURES). MECHANISM APPEARS COMPLETE AND INTACT. SPRING SEEMS TO WIND CORRECTLY. I BELIEVE THE CASE IS GUTTA-PERCHA. PART OF THE WINDING KEY IS THERE.

This is a Sur Plateau snuff musical box. I do not know much about this piece other than it is a very early music box. I did not see a makers name or hallmark on it. I do not have a winding key for it, so I do not know if it works at all, or what it might need. So please assume that it needs some restoration. The movement is missing the screws to hold it to the bottom of the box. The side screws holding the bottom into the cabinet appear to have pulled through and could use the work of a metal / jewerly repair tech to repair. Those screws also are missing. The cabinet appears to be silver or silver plated? It has some scratches and dings, and in general probably could use a cleaning and polish. The inside snuff compartment of the box appears to be gold washed. The back side of the box does have a small sliding control for the movement. Please see the photos.
