RARE late-19th CENTURY SWISS CYLINDER MUSIC BOX with DRUM, 6 BELLS and CASTANETS. Cylinder = 17.5 long. Box = 28.5″ long x 13.5″ wide x 10 tall. The music box mechanism works perfectly and looks beautiful. There are no teeth missing. It winds up and plays at a consistent speed. It plays 12 songs on rotation. The original song list is attached to the inside of the lid. One or two of the metal hammers on the drum and the castanet appear to need a bit of adjustment but overall, the mechanism is in excellent condition. Nothing is missing or broken. The wooden box is in rough shape. It is very scratched up and dinged and the inlay is in terrible condition. The box is intact–not coming apart. The joints are strong and the mechanism is fastened firmly in place inside the box. Also missing is the interior glass cover and the stop and start levers that would have extended from the mechanism up to the side of the glass cover. These multiple instrument 19th century music boxes are exceedingly rare. Although the case is in very poor condition, the mechanism is superb. I have a video of the box playing.
