Antique Swiss Music Box Inlaid Case Runs Needs Refurbishing Work No Tune Card. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! Nice older music box here. The top, sides and bottom are in very good condition. No warping, splits or repairs that we can ascertain. Uncommon beveled edge to the top of the case as well. Three rectangular lines of inlay on the front of the case, one within the other. Then an inlaid design of flowers on the top of the case, some of the inlay is missing. The right hinge of the inner door could use some tightening attention. My best guess is that the music box dates to the latter 1880s to mid-1890s and is Swiss made. The 6 long pin cylinder shows some finish loss. There are approximately 40 teeth on the comb and all the teeth are in place, some of the smaller tips are missing. The wind mechanism of the movement works as expected and the wind spring feels sound when keyed. The music box comes with a vintage wind key. Not sure if the far right tooth was intentionally cut off or is broken. The brass lock and decorative brass keyhole plate are still with the music box. There is no key. The case is in pretty good shape. No cracks, splits or missing pieces. The top of the case sits down evenly on the base. The hinges that hold the top to the base need some tightening. No warping of the top going on with this music box which is a common malady that one comes across with these older boxes. So, very uncommon to find one in such great shape. The four legs are built into the sides of the case and all still look good. The glass on the flip lid over the music box is cracked. There is no music card listing inside of the case, if there was one. Not sure what the tunes are that the music box plays. The comb is in fairly good condition. All the approximately 40 teeth are in place, and I see no past repairs to any of the teeth. The nickel plated finish on the comb shows some loss. The pin cylinder looks to be in very nice shape finish wise. Cannot say if any of the pins are bent or missing. The music box tunes does not sound great with the 4 or 5 teeth tips that are missing (left side of comb) when the music box is played. The flywheel needs some prompting at times with a finger to get it going, so the movement probably could use a good cleaning/servicing. Plays fine after that. The removable wind key is with the case and still has the wood knob on it. The spring on the music box feels sound when keyed. Do not see a visible serial number on the movement. The stop and start selector button works, as does the replay/change selector. The music box case is 5″ tall, by 16.75″ across, by 7.25 wide.
