The movement features 6 saucers bells with 6 bird strikers; a brass drum with 8 beaters; a castanet with 8 beaters. The drum, bird strikers, and castanet can be silenced at will using the brass controls. The music box has a very fine pitch and sound. Brémond, one of the most respected and talented makers of the era, demonstrates not just beauty and technical excellence, but sheer musical mastery. The outer case boasts a burr-walnut veneer with ebony borders and interior domed lid. This music box is dedicated to operatic overtures and also replicates the effect of a mandolin. Earlier examples such as this are of outstandingly high quality and are much prized.
