Rare Antique Singing Bird Jardiniere Music Box Musical Automaton
OFFERED WITH OUR 100% “TOTAL SATISFACTION GUARANTEE” Singing Bird In Jardiniere. A fantastic rarity from the workshops of Charles Bontems, Paris, France, c. A similar example is shown in Christian Bailly’s authoritative reference book, “Flights of Fancy”, on page 300. The mechanical singing bird sits on a perch, atop a garden of dried flowers. When activated, the bird animates and sings his happy tune. His head turns, tail flaps, etc. As an additional, and very rare feature, there is a butterfly in the garden who flaps his wings when the bird sings. Dimensions overall are about 21″ high, the vase is 10″ diameter and the bird about 5 long from beak to tail. The jardiniere is housed in an original porcelain French vase of the period. This was a unique Bontems creation that is a small miracle to have survived intact to this day, through world wars and other disturbances. We have had this professionally serviced and restored. It works perfectly and is virtually flawless in appearance. A true museum piece that will add grace to any any home or castle. We will have to properly secure the jardiniere in several layers of foam, and triple-box the entirety to prevent shock damage.
