Lecoultre Preserved Musical Box Early Fruitwood 80Teeth Comb Intact. I would like to identify who L. Lecoultre is and more information on the unidentified maker mark. Any help from experts would be appreciated. This music box is for sale, but, I’m trying to complete the identification and will adjust the price accordingly. This is a very early collectable musical box. I’ve compiled as much information as possible on this music box in two web links which includes many additional photos and information on the background of this music box as I know it. This includes a comparison to a spare L. The spare unit has the same maker mark and no serial number in the usual spot on the bedplate. More details are in the links. This is a L. Lecoultre” music box but it is not clear who “L. The maker mark is stamped on the bedplate as normally expected and I’ve included a macro shot zooming in on the detail of it. There is no serial number on the bedplate which is complicating age identification, although there. A number of other markings documented. This music box has essentially been untouched other than removing the unit from the Fruitwood box for photos and identification. This box will remain in preservation mode for as long as I own it and as such is not restored nor is fully in tune. It runs perfectly (all three controls work) and I think it sounds beautiful as it is despite a few odd notes. The excellent news is all the comb teeth and tips are complete. There’s a lot to negotiate on this sale including the spare L. Lecoultre box and governor described in the letter. I secured the spare for the governor as one of the governor fan blades of this unit had long ago broke off and is missing. That said, I like the speed at which the music plays and feel no urgent need to replace the original governor. The prior owners had requested me to share my findings and I’ve just sent off a letter to them which an internet friendly version is at the link containing information found and known about this musical box.
