This Polyphon is a disc-playing music box. A mechanical device first manufactured by the Polyphon Musikwerke, located in Leipzig. This ingenious music box is the great grandfather of the modern jukebox. For only one English Pence, patrons could be entertained not only by beautiful music, but be able to see most of the working parts in action as the 19.58 disc slowly revolved. It is in beautiful condition and works very well, even though it’s 120 years old! The finish is still glossy and except for a few small spots where the veneer has chipped. Is in superb condition. This machine has TWO coin slots: one on the left side and one on the right that are beautiful ornamental metal castings, The coins drop into the locked drawer below. The paint is good on the instruction tags which reads: “INSERT PENNY INTO SLOT”. The clockwork operates smoothly and quietly. I’ve never cranked it’s heavy duty spring over 15 revolutions nor bottomed out the spring – just to be gentle and safe with this old timer. The governor works regulates the timing well. There are 4 penny’s with it and keys that work, but are not original. Measures 37 inches tall. 27 inches wide and is about 15 inches deep.
