A remarkable and what I call a “safe deposit box beauty”. 935 sterling silver, guilloche and enamel singing bird box crafted by Karl Griesbaum in the 1920s. Perfect and gorgeous “Caribbean blue” enamel and the guilloche tooling is hypnotizing. This also has the highest quality Type 1 mechanical movement (there were 3 quality levels) Karl Griesbaum made and very few examples have this movement because it cost 20% more to install such – thicker plates, better finishing and highly polished. Please zoom into the HD quality photos so you can see quality of this case. The original bird is highly colorful and this Karl Griesbaum singing bird box plays beautifully. The case is appropriately hallmarked for. All Karl Griesbaum singing bird boxes have a bird with tiny braided wire feet – if the bird does not have braided wire feet, the bird is a modern replacement (not good) and most sellers unfortunately do not disclose this fact. The original Karl Griesbaum birds also have superior feathers. The original mechanical movement is also in excellent condition – fully serviced. In summary, this is a fantastic antique singing bird box in amazing cosmetic and mechanical condition. I fully serviced (cleaned, adjusted, lubricated) the mechanical movement so this singing bird box operates perfectly. Buyers should be cautious when purchasing an antique singing bird box – always insist on seeing a photo of the mechanical movement for any singing bird box described as “antique”. This significantly impacts both current value and future value appreciation. The bird animates perfectly as follows: wings flap up/down, beak opens/closes, tail flutters up/down all the while singing to a beautiful oscillating bird song that is synchronized to the bird animation.
