Very attractive late 19th century Swiss music box by Mermod Frères. The rosewood case is in very good condition with inlaid banding on the lid, some of which is missing (see photo). The tuned steel comb is played upon by pegs on a 5 1/2 diameter and 6 long brass cylinder with a lever wind. The 42-tooth comb includes 8 missing pins. While properly rewound, the box plays one of 8 airs with an occasional prompting of the flywheel to get it going. The case still has a music card listing in exceptional condition including 8 airs of the type of selection intended for a European audience. The music card shows the serial number 30591 with an hand written secondary number underneath it starting with what seems to be 18173. There is a brass lock in the front of the case but the key is missing. Dimensions of the case are 16 Long by 7 4/8 Wide and 5 1/8 High.
