For sale is a Antique 1860 “Rare” LARGE Cylinder Music Box In working condition and sounds great! This belonged to the mother of an elderly gentleman I knew, who has since passed away.. It was originally his mothers from Ohio.. And was an anniversary gift from my EX husband.. It is a lovely peice, I just have no need for this now days.. The case is solid with some expected hairline cracks as seen in pics a slight gap in corner.. Just came apart as I was moving it for pics.. And some veneer strips on front have minor damage.. And can be restored or left as is. The top inlays are fully intact. All the bells play clears. Bornand’s fatherinlaw, who trained at the Mermod Freres factory in St. Croix, Switzerland, came to Rahway, N. Where he tuned combs for the Regina Music Box Company. In 1902, he moved to Pelham, carrying on his work and teaching it to his son Adrian Mrs. Bornand’s husband, who died in 1949 even as the industry itself was waning. The golden age of music boxes in America was from around the 1860’s to about 1910, Mrs. The earliest types of music boxes were made in Switzerland in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s, and were small, intricate pieces.
