This rare, hand-carved Black Forest “Whistler” music box depicts a jovial Navy Sailor and was crafted by renowned German maker Karl Griesbaum, likely between 1900 and 1939. The carving all and all in good condition for its age some stress cracks in the wood from drying and temperature changes along with some minor issues including paint loss, dings, dents, chips, cracks, scrapes, scratches, nicked edges, smudges, and crackling. It could also use a good cleaning. The back door to the carving is missing and so is the key the mechanism does work but need serviceing from a clook repair person. The bag or horn that makes the whislte sound is unglued in a small section as well so the whistle sound is not correct. There is a line that connects the head to the mechanism that needs to be replaced and installed as well.
