COIN-OP POLYPHON BELL MUSIC BOX ” INCLUDES DISK CABINET & DISKS “. Offered for sale is this turn-of-the-century Style 6K Polyphon music box, playing 22 disks. The double combs are accompanied by 16 “xylophone” (flat) bells. It is coin-operated, playing on a nickel. Made in Leipzig, Germany, c. 1895, by Polyphon Musikwerke, parent company of Regina. Musical instruments such as these were the wonders of the age, having superseded the cylinder music box with their loud, resonant tones and ability to play any number of different tunes. Examples such as this were wall-hung in restaurants and taverns, and the proprietor kept possession of the disks in a back room, away from the hands of the customers. Thus, disk cabinets were usually not supplied by the factory and were later-made when these music boxes starting showing up in homes. The original wall-hanging brackets are still in place at the rear of the cabinet, should you want to hang it on a wall yourself. This particular music box has perfect double combs with no broken or replaced teeth, no damper squeaks and no operational issues. The bells are in tune and clear. The only issue is a prior repair to the area of one bell arm-section support, but that is barely visible and not affecting the bells or their sound. Indeed, take a look here and determine for yourself what a marvel this is. Please note, about half-way through, you will hear a clinking sound, this is the coin dropping down into the lower storage drawer. Musicaltreasuresofmiami – Polyphon Music Box #3316 – YouTube. Overall measurements are, including the pediment: 31″ (79 cm) wide x 16″ (41 cm) deep x 89 (226 cm) high. The beautiful, ornate, cast bedplate proudly displays the Polyphon name. There are sound vents on either side of the casing that allow the music to flow out, unimpeded. The pediment appears original. The casework has been professionally refinished some time in the past. There are locks and keys for the upper musical section and the lower disk bin, which has slots for storing many disks. Surprisingly, there is a coin drawer underneath the main section, that does not have a lock. After two World Wars and 125 years, it may have been modified along the way! MOTOR CAR SONG OH!
