Museum Restored Coin-op Swiss Station Music Box Musical Automaton
SWISS STATION MUSIC BOX. Three Dancing Dolls Six Bells Arabic & Butterfly Bell Strikers. As found in the waiting rooms of Swiss railway stations from the 1890’s to 1950’s, these music boxes were entertainment pieces, especially designed to keep the children fascinated and entertained. Their history shows that entrepreneurs such as Henri Vidoudez and Auguste Lasseur constructed these in their St. Croix workshops, using components supplied by the nearby music box makers, and then leased them to the railroad, maintaining their operation and sharing in the proceeds. This particular historical piece was recently restored by the Baud Museum workshop in L’Auberson, Switzerland, known to be the finest music box repair shop of it’s kind and in family ownership for generations. The workshop, formed by the renowned Baud Freres, specialized in music box restoration, especially of those made in the surrounding village of Ste. They established a museum as well, which to this day serves visitors from all over the world. The Swiss cylinder music box, made in Ste. 1890 sounds just great, playing eight tunes and displaying the original tune sheet. It is powered by a large spring motor, wound out the side by hand crank. The coin-op mechanism and coin chute are in working order. The overall case measurements are 24″ wide x 15″ deep x 25 high. There are three dancing dolls, engaged in a nice performance with every tune. These dolls actually pirouette on their feet, fascinating to watch up close. In the rear, striking the bells, are two Arabic figures, each striking two bells and tuning their heads from side to side as they accompany the music. There are also two butterflies striking the other two bells. A lot to see and hear! You and your family will enjoy this music box for generations to come! This will be packed and wood-crated.
