Old French or German Automaton Wind Up Brass Jeweled Birdcage with Moving Bird
This birdcage measures approx. 8 1/2″ tall x 5 3/4″ in diameter (including the legs). This brass birdcage is gorgeous with blue moonstones and scrolled metalwork. The bird has real feathers. When wound he should sing, but he does not sing. He moves great though, with beak opening and closing, body moving side to side, and tail fluttering up and down. Likely there is a hole in the bellows inside. Very tiny screws are along the side, and three underneath that hold it together. It is complete but missing the ringlet that was attached at the top. Also the switch underneath does not react any differently between’continuous’ and’intermission’. Yet the on/off function does work fine. Unmarked but possibly French or German made. A lovely piece that dates back to the late 1890s-1910 era. FREE scheduling, supersized images and templates. Get Vendio Sales Manager.
