Very well cared-for cylinder music box made in the late 1800s in Switzerland. The 4+ cylinder contains 6 airs (tunes or songs) which play on the original near perfect 41 teeth. The spring-driven movement has been recently serviced to continue to provide entertainment offered by these musical instruments. Winding is done simply using the lever on the left side. The sound is remarkably robust, crisp, and clear. Two operating options are available on the right side. “STOP/PLAY” starts and stops the movement. “REPEAT/CHANGE” allows continuous play of a single air or sequencing through all 6. The original play list is affixed to the inside top and is inscribed with “Etouffoirs en Acier soit a Spiraux” which means “Dampers of Steel Easy to Wind”, an expression which apparently was used to stress the desirable features of the music box movement, i. The wood box is in excellent condition considering its age and measures approximately 11″ wide x 6″ deep x 4 1/4 high. Amazingly the original operating instructions (on 4 two-sided sections) in 4 different languages are still with the box.
