I called the Regue company in Switzerland to try and find out why the top of this music player was ebonized and after a month of going back and forth and through a translator I found out that they had an issue with the tops of these music players becoming milky white to the point where you could not see the wood grain like the rest of the music box. They said that they had several dozen of these music boxes that they could not fix so the tops were ebonized. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing what ever the case it is still a beautiful music box.
