Vintage Paillard music box. Outside of the box measures 16.5 X 5.5 X 8.5. Does not come with key. The fully operational movement is set in motion by moving the small lever on the right from “STOP” to PLAY. The lever above (Change and Repeat) allows one to repeat a song or play the next on the cylinder, while the current song is indicated on a dial numbered one through twelve in the movement. Known for its mechanical innovations, the company was instrumental in the development of advanced musical boxes in the 19th century, was one of the largest family businesses to be involved in the making of music boxes, and was a dominant supplier in Europe. Founded in 1814 by Moises Paillard, the company began by making musical box movements and was soon involved in all aspects of production. The firm was particularly renowned for having introduced and patented the successful Sublime Harmonie in 1874 and has perfected the interchangeable cylinder system.
