I dealt in mechanical music for almost forty years, and this is probably cosmetically the best’Celestina’ that I have ever seen. The transfer work is so bright that I was not absolutely sure if the black (ebonised) base surround is refinished or not, but I suspect it is. If you are reading this you will know what the machine is and what I mean when I say that the bellows need to be recovered. At present the machine only wheezes; this is typical of this the of machine and not surprising after 120 years since it was made. The only’fault’ is that the winding-handle has been replaced by one taken from an early HMV gramophone. But this makes no difference to the playing ability once restored. The machine comes with 22 20-note music strips and the’continuous band’ attachment needed to play them. I have described the machine honestly as not working at present. I will not accept a return on the grounds that the recipient does not know how to repair it. It is being offered as a project for those who understand the work involved. Cash on collection (Surrey) is also possible. The item “VERY FINE’CELESTINA’ 20-NOTE ORGANETTE/MUSIC BOX REQUIRING BELLOWS ATTENTION” is in sale since Saturday, May 29, 2021.
