SWISS INTERCHANGEABLE-CYLINDER MUSIC BOX. Made in Switzerland c. 1885, with the maker attributed to Ami Rivenc of Geneva. To begin with, the music box has six (6) interchangeable cylinders. Each cylinder is 14″ long x 2.5″ diameter. They are housed in a unique sliding chamber at the rear, accessible from either side. Accompanying the sweet music are six (6) engraved and tuned saucer bells, each struck by a gilded bird striker. The combs are perfect, with no broken teeth or tips. There is an engraved “zither” over the combs for tone control, and an on-off switch for the bells. For a delightful visual effect, the maker added two dancing dolls, one on either side of the music box, each of which pirouettes on her feet, seemingly to the beat of the music. All of this is housed in a unique “davenport” desk style cabinet, measuring 33″ wide x 16″ deep x 42″ high (music box closed) and 54″ high (open). As you can see from the pictures, the condition is wonderful, and we can attest that the sound is excellent.
