Vintage Large Swiss Cylinder Music Box. The entire music box mechanism and comb are in good working condition. It plays 8 melodies listed on a “Program Sheet” affixed to the underside of the lid; there is a switch that allows you to cycle through the playlist or to repeat a single tune. The melodies are: 1. Home Sweet Home, 2. Last Rose of Summer, 3. The Mocking Bird, 4. Auld Lang Syne, 5. Old Folks at Home, 6. Dixie’s Land, and 8. The Wave (A Waltz by Olivier Metra). A dial rotates to indicate which melody is currently playing. The sound and tone are excellent! One feature of this amazing cylinder music box is the “Jacot’s Safety Device” installed by the maker for the purpose of protecting the spring. The Emblem on the lower left side of the tune card is an identifying marker placed by the maker. There is also a “Fast or Slow Adjustment Switch” by the mechanical speed governor to allow for control and variation to the sound. An Internal Framed Glass Lid covers the entire music box mechanism, allowing for safe viewing during operation when the main lid is lifted. Lastly, a Zither Attachment, when engaged, allows the music box to have a different and unique sound. The size of the actual music box is as follows. Since this music box is a vintage piece from the early 1900’s, there are a few signs of age and wear with it. First, though it is in good condition, the wooden case does have some age-related scuffs and marks on its finish. Also, there is a small fissure at the lower left side of the lid and a small hole through the inner (secondary) lid’s wooden frame. The zither attachment needs a new piece of parchment to allow the change to its sound; the old parchment has worn from age and use. Lastly, there is no key for the lid lock. This lovely music box has been exclusively kept in a smoke-free and dry environment. This music treasure will be Professionally Packed by a PostNet Center. The item will be placed in a box, with that box then placed within another box for safety during transit. A signature will be required when delivered.
