Antique Working Swiss Cylinder Wood Inlaid Music Box 8 Song & Original Song List
Antique Large Swiss Cylinder Music Box – 8 Songs with Original Handwritten List – 43 Notes. 17.5″ Long by 7.75″ Deep by 6 Tall. This music box has been in store for decades and was probably last used in the 1960s or 1970s. It was made some time pre-1900s. However, it is in fine working order. Unlike many of these music boxes, there are no broken teeth on this one. The sound quality is EXCELLENT and VERY LOUD. All 8 songs play perfectly and there are no skipped notes because none of the teeth are broken. However, the glass cover in the center, over the cylinder, is tricky to lift up since the original latch to lift it is missing (like a door with no doorknob). The glass cover needs to be lifted in order for the music to play. This can be easily fixed though just by adding a latch or something (or if you want you can just use your fingernails to lift it). Also, the bottom knob on the right (the one labeled “STOP” and “START”) is a little loose but still works fine. The other knob (for changing or repeating songs) works perfectly. Additionally, the key for the keyhole, which allows the music box to be locked, is missing (if we do find it at any point then we’ll send it over). But, besides these minor difficulties, none of which really impede the ability of the box to play, there are no other mechanical difficulties. The box has quite a few small scratches in the wood on the sides of the box from use, but the top, with the attractive rendering of flowers, is virtually free from any marks. So, conclusively, a tiny bit of restoration could be done just to make the music box easier to use, but it is not absolutely necessary. I have attached a video showing a brief sample of songs playing. As you can see, the box plays the songs crisply, and switches from one song to another easily all you have to do is have the top knob on “CHANGE” and when one song ends, put the bottom knob on START. ” When you press “START, the little fan on the bottom right starts to whir, which in turn causes the gears holding the cylinder to spin, causing the song to play. When it changes from one song to another, the dial on the left hand side will change numbers (it is labeled with the numbers 1 through 8 to signify each of the 8 songs). A few cranks of the crank on the left are sufficient to keep it going through all 8 songs and more. Just try not to overwind the crank or the songs will play slower. Here is the list of the songs. 1Tarara Boom de Aye. 2 Home Sweet Home. ” – might be “The Duke of Berwick March” which is really called “Why, Soldiers, Why? 5 The Blue Bells of Scotland. 6 March of the Men of Harlech. 7 “Sweetheart’s Walk” – might be “Sweetheart Let’s go A-Walking”.
