In the late 1800’s, Symphonion Musikwerke of Germany established a manufacturing plant in New Jersey in order to better complete in the U. Their products were labeled “Imperial Symphonion”. The business was not terribly successful, and with the onset of the phonograph age, music box sales were slowly grinding to a halt. In the end, Imperial Symphonion designed and marketed a new line of music boxes, called ” New Century “. These utilized musical movements made by Paillard of Switzerland, and incorporated into American-made cases. This large music box is housed in a solid mahogany cabinet, in exceptional condition. The double-comb mechanism is in excellent, restored condition, with no broken or replaced teeth, playing 15 diameter disks, and works well, with six(6) disks included.
