A vintage Thorens grand piano music box is depicted in the image. This particular model is often made with a butterscotch Bakelite or plastic top and a gilt metal body. The top of the music box features a decorative embellishment of musical instruments and sheet music. Thorens, a Swiss company, was known for producing high-quality music box movements, and many of these piano-shaped boxes were also designed to hold cigarettes or jewelry. Thorens began making music box movements in 1883 and continued until 1985 when the company was acquired by Reuge. The music boxes from the early 20th century are generally more sought after by collectors. NOTE-is missing one leg but still works beautifully!
