This antique singing bird box crafted in the late 1800s/very early 1900s. By unknown maker, highly possible crafted by “OMM/Raymy” of Geneva Switzerland. Base on the peculiar rear mounted governor fan movement designed. The bird is highly colorful boasting iridescent blue & green feathers and pastel red, green, blue and orange feathers. This movement is different than most. It’s a Swiss movement not German KG movement. The obvious difference is where the governor fan is located, in the back. Typically, (German KG movement) governor fans are located on the side, but this is located in the back, and has a long endless screw to allow for the governor fan to be in the back. The other difference is the mechanism that allows the bird to rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise is also different compared to most. Typically you would have what is called a rack strip, which is a tiny piece of metal that runs perpendicular to the shaft of where the bird sits, and as the rack strip moves back and forth, this is what makes the bird turn. In this case, the gearing mechanism is more substantial and is what Rochat used in his early fusée type movements. Moreover, the bird box is quieter than most. You can hear the governor fan running, but overall there is less noise from the mechanism. It is a superior design which allows for the entire singing bird box to be sturdier and last longer.
