This is a charming vintage Japanese automaton music box featuring a bright yellow canary inside a gilt metal birdcage surrounded by decorative fabric flowers. The piece is marked Japan on the base and dates to the mid-20th century, circa 1950s-1970s. When wound, the mechanism plays a pleasant tune while the bird gently moves, creating a delightful display of both sight and sound. The birdcage measures approximately 10 inches tall by 6 inches wide. Condition is very good for age, with expected light wear to the cage finish and flowers, but the music box and automaton both function beautifully.
